Wat Chedi Luang is a 500 year old ruined chedi which was once stood some 90m high.  It was build initially in 1401 and then substantially enlarged between 1475 and 1478 by King Tiloka.  The chedi was partially destroyed during an earthquake in 1545 and never rebuilt.  This wat has two particular claims to fame.  It housed the famous Emerald Buddha, which now in Bangkok.  And second, King Mengrai is believed to have been killed by a bolt of lighting in the temple compound.
