Province is also called changwat in Thai. There are
76 provinces and each with a governor as its head. Below the province is
the amphoe or district, and each headed by a nai amphoe or
district officer. Then comes the tambo, a commune of villages, each
with a kamnan in charge. Finally, the lowest level of administration
is the mubaan, the village, each headed by a democratically elected phuuyaibaan
or village head.
